Advocates for Malawi
In an initial effort to accomplish our goal of advocacy for Malawians, we have pulled together some information on a few of the agencies that have been working to this end for some time now:
- The Office on Africa Affairs (OAA) is a church-sponsored not-for-profit advocacy organization seeking to articulate and promote a just American policy toward Africa. They monitor Congressional legislation and executive policies and actions and issue action alerts to advance progressive legislation and policy. They seek to work in partnership with colleagues in Africa, the Africa advocacy community in the United States, and grassroots organizations concerned with various aspects of African affairs. Their web address is http://oaa.dc.gov/oaa/site/default.asp
- The PCUSA Washington Advocacy Office is the public policy information and advocacy office of the General Assembly. Its task is to advocate, and help the church to advocate, the social witness perspectives and policies of the Presbyterian General Assembly. Their web address is http://www.pcusa.org/washington/index.htm.
- The PCUSA Peacemaking Program (United Nations) http://www.pcusa.org/peacemaking/un/index.htm keeps the church up to date on the issues before the world, and brings the voice of the church to the work of the United Nations.
